Palace spokesman Harry Roque

Qualified families in areas under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) will still receive emergency cash assistance from the government, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced during the Laging Handa public briefing on Saturday.

“Kasama sa second tranche ang MECQ [areas],” he added.

Malacañang released the statement after complaints were raised about how only qualified families living in areas under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) will receive the second tranche of the cash subsidy while those families in areas under MECG and GCQ will no longer receive the same support from the government.

Metro Manila, Laguna, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, and Zambales are placed under MECQ from May 16 to May 31.

Cebu City and Mandaue City, on the other hand, have remained under ECQ until May 31.

“Paunang ilalabas ay ‘yung mga ayuda sa mga lugar na nanatili sa ECQ,” Roque stated.

“Hinihintay po natin ang memo galing po sa Office of the Executive Secretary. Siguro po ang paunang ilalabas ay sigurado po iyong mga ayuda doon sa mga lugar na nananatili sa ECQ,” he added.

As mandated in the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act, around 18 million low-income households belonging to the informal sector will be targeted to receive monthly emergency subsidies amounting to P5,000 to P8,000 for April and May. (RJ Espartinez)
