Transport and logistics company 2GO will open two floating hospitals and its terminal to handle 2,800 Covid-19 patients, the government said on Saturday.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said a big vessel would be a floating hospital capable of serving 1,500 patients, while a smaller ship would handle 300 more.

“This is all on top of the 1,000 that can be served in the terminal alone…All together it can serve 2,800 people, and it will be operational by next week,” said Nograles, spokesman for the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases that is leading the Covid-19 response.

“While there are establishments that have rejected our frontliners, there are generous souls that have opened their doors to our doctors and nurses,” he said.

Nograles also said The Oriental Hotel chain, with branches in Legazpi, Mariveles and Leyte, will open 300 rooms for health workers, while another hotel, Villa Amada in Legazpi, will offer 20 rooms.

Five hotels in Naga will also open 111 rooms for frontliners, he said. (PressONE.ph)
