In a virtual meeting with mayors and the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force, Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia placed 11 LGUs under MECQ with heightened restrictions for two weeks starting Aug. 11 to slow down the spread of Covid-19.
Eleven localities in the province of Cebu will be placed under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) with heightened restrictions starting Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021.
The decision was made Tuesday after a meeting with Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia, all the mayors in the province, and the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force because of the rising cases of Covid-19 infections.
In Garcia’s Executive Order 38, areas under MECQ with heightened restrictions for two weeks include Samboan, Sibonga, Argao, Cordova, Oslob, Liloan, Consolacion, Minglanilla, and the cities of Talisay, Carcar, and Naga.
Garcia said the pre-emptive measure was meant to slow down the transmission of Covid-19 in these areas. The new quarantine classification will take effect Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 12:01 a.m.
Late last month, Malacañang announced that Cebu would be placed under MECQ but was downgraded to GCQ with heightened restriction after the province appealed to the National IATF.
Aside from minimum public health standards, Garcia’s EO also recommends using air purifiers with efficient particulate air filters and ionizers and regular disinfection using ultraviolet germicidal light.
The province has been experiencing surges in Covid infections and several Delta variant cases, promoting local executives to take precautions.
