The Philippines logged on Wednesday 22,958 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, pushing the nationwide tally to 3,293,625.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported that all Covid-19 laboratories were functional on January 17, but six of them failed to submit their reports on time. 

The DOH also clarified that among the new infections reported, 21,691 of them were recorded from January 6 to January 19, 2022.

The National Capital Region (NCR) recorded the highest number of cases with 7,861 cases or 36% of total cases; followed by Region 4-A with 4,647 or 21%; and Region 3 with 2,049 or 9%.

Currently, there are 270,728 active Covid-19 infections undergoing medical treatment: 8,335 are asymptomatic, 257,632 are mild, 2,970 are moderate, 1,487 are severe and 304 are critical.

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate climbed to 2,969,853 with 36,611 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.

Death toll, on the other hand, increased to 53,044 with 82 new fatalities. 

The health department removed 91 duplicates, including 64 recoveries, in the nationwide count. Ronald Espartinez
