The Philippines on Monday reported 37,070 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, pushing the nationwide tally to 3,242,374.

The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed that all Covid-19 laboratories were functional on January 10, 2022, but 12 laboratories failed to submit their reports on time. 

The health department also clarified that among the new infections recorded today, 36,001 or 97% of cases happened from January 4 to January 17, 2022.

The National Capital Region (NCR) remained on top with the highest cases in the recent two weeks at 13,061 or 36%; followed by Calabarzon with 9,048 or 25%; and Central Luzon with 4,173 or 12%.

Currently, there are 290,938 active Covid-19 infections undergoing medical treatment: 9,187 are asymptomatic, 277,020 are mild, 2,947 are moderate, 1,480 are severe and 304 are critical.

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate climbed to 2,898,507 with 33,940 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness. 

Death toll, on the other hand, increased to 52,929 with 23 new fatalities. 

The DOH removed 94 duplicates in the total count. Among the said number, 64 were recoveries and one fatality. Ronald Espartinez
